The Course Syllabus:

Stage 1 – Establish Your Business (Weeks 1–4)

  • Register your business, set up bank accounts, insurance, and compliance
  • Business planning - good habits for strong foundations 
  • Identify ideal clients 
  • Choose and package your services
  • Decide on pricing models
  • Set up your folder structures, templates, and core systems
  • Build a simple holding-page website
  • Get preliminary branding basics in place (logo, fonts, colour palette)
  • Learn how to take payments

Stage 2 – Market Your Business (Weeks 5–8)

  • Set up and optimise your Instagram and LinkedIn profiles
  • Create and schedule first marketing posts
  • Start your email list and plan a simple newsletter
  • Network strategically (online and in person)
  • Develop your “elevator pitch” and sales scripts
  • Identify where to find ideal clients

Stage 3 – Serve Your Clients (Weeks 9–12)

  • Client onboarding and proposal process
  • Managing enquiries and discovery calls
  • Running a smooth design process using templates
  • Communicating with clients (emails, updates, meetings)
  • Handling revisions and scope changes professionally
  • Delivering final projects
  • Gathering testimonials, photos, and B-roll for future marketing

PLEASE NOTE:

The philosophy of Interior Design Business in a Box is start with minimum viable product - if you wait until everything is perfect you will never launch. That means, start now, polish later, once you have market feedback on the viability of your proposal. At some point you'll have to jump - probably before you feel ready. If you expect perfection before you start, this is not the course for you. 

The course name-checks low-cost and free digital tools and platforms, e.g. Canva, and Squarespace. Interior Design Business in a Box does not include software training. Each of these apps and systems is highly intuitive: the ability to adopt and self-train on new systems is a core business skill in the 2020's.

You will need to organise and pay for your own professional insurances - the course will include information on what is required. 

Any legally-binding contracts and documentation should drafted and approved by your lawyer before use. 

This course is based on interior design practice in the United Kingdom. You may need to make small adjustments to comply with regulations and systems in overseas jurisdictions. 

Finally: Business in a Box exclusively covers business skills, strategies, and organisation; it does not cover design practice and tradecraft. It is assumed that you already understand the design process, are appropriately knowledgeable, and are up to speed with the skills and methods required to competently deliver the services you plan to offer professionally.
