At 58, I’ve reinvented myself multiple times, and I know that relevance, self-belief, and adaptability are just as important as spreadsheets and systems. My clients learn to build profitable, joyful design practices - and to step into the most confident, fulfilled, future-ready version of themselves.

Recipe For A Room courses have 3 great points of difference:

1:  I can't bear having only a superficial understanding of a subject, I need to know the 'why?' behind a 'fact'.  In my courses I explain the proven theories that underpin headline statements.  This equips you to contextualise design and apply it to future projects too, not just in a narrow way on one occasion.  This also means that Recipe For A Room courses are regularly weeded to remove inconsequential fluff!

2:  The most common complaint I hear about other design courses is that graduates are none the wiser about how to actually apply theories.

My courses are part theoretical, part practical and process-based.   By way of practical workshops and step-by-step processes, Recipe For A Room courses show you exactly how to do it for yourself, in the wild, so to speak.  

3:  Courses and coaching delivered by Recipe For A Room treat the whole designer.  Mindset and self-esteem are as important as business planning and meticulous accounting; psychology and mental preparation are as important as processes and paperwork. Hothouse is where our community of ambitious creative entrepreneurs gathers to set goals for our businesses, to monitor and report on those goals, and to celebrate success.

Design practice can be lonely, and being consistent - showing up confidently each day to execute our business plans - is easier when there is accountability.  

Hothouse is also a venue for webinars and other live and scheduled events and activities designed to boost confidence, encourage positive mindset, and build core skills and competencies.

Business in a Box is my step-by-step programme for new interior designers who want to launch quickly, confidently, and without overwhelm. 

It gives you everything you need to set up and start trading - from ready-made templates and systems you can rebrand as your own, to guidance on pricing, client management, marketing, and business planning.

Unlike courses that keep you stuck in theory, Business in a Box is designed to get you into action straight away. You’ll launch your business while you learn, building confidence, clarity, and real-world experience as you go.

With weekly coaching and a supportive peer group alongside you, you’ll create the foundations for a profitable, joyful design practice - and develop the habits to keep it growing.

Bootcamp is a live online course (five weeks long and for maximum of 12 designers) that runs two or three times a year. It blends online collaborative group sessions, with 1-2-1 coaching with me where we focus on planning a unique business strategy and charting your future commercial success.

Bootcamp content covers managing your time, managing yourself, and managing your clients, alongside key business management skills such as business planning, creating financial goals, and planning marketing initiatives to deliver the desired results.  

Bootcamp requires 5-10 hours of your time each week for the five week duration of the course.

HOTHOUSE - this online community welcomes all ambitious creatives who want to actively grow their business and achieve exceptional standards of professionalism. Hothouse members will be asked to set annual goals for their business, to actively push towards these, and to monitor progress as they go. 

BUSINESS IN A BOX - for new designers who want support as they get started, because: they have just graduated and need a bridge to professional practice; or, they have transitioned from a previous career with transferrable skills and want an induction in the business of design; or, because they have already started but haven't yet hit their stride. 

BOOTCAMP - for professional designers with at least 2 years' industry experience, this short, intensive group course (delivered live online) also includes five 1-2-1 coaching sessions during which we plan your business success, step-by-step.  

COACHING - you can book meetings with me on an hourly basis, and together we can address your most pressing business challenges and work together on strengthening your professional skills.
