About Me

Hi, I’m Julia Begbie. I believe that building a thriving design business isn’t just about spreadsheets, clients, or marketing plans - it’s about who you become in the process. Your growth as a business owner and your growth as a person are inseparable.

I’ve lived this truth myself. After qualifying as an interior designer in 1997 - aged 30, and following 10 years on the New York Stock Exchange - I spent 25 years balancing a dual career: running residential projects for clients in Europe, the USA, and Africa, while also teaching the next generation of designers at London’s leading design college.

Alongside my professional work, I’ve renovated nine homes and built a contemporary house from scratch - but perhaps my biggest project has been the life my partner and I intentionally designed for ourselves. Together we’ve built and nurtured businesses that allow us to live nomadically, working seamlessly from a bucket list of major cities around the world, without interruption to our work.

Today, through Recipe For A Room, I share the professional processes, strategies, and mindset shifts that enable interior designers to:
