🌟 What is Hothouse?

Hothouse is an interior design business accelerator, designed to help you grow your business faster through collaboration, intentional action, and goal-setting. Each month, we focus on strengthening a key area of professional performance, tracking progress as we go.

πŸŽ‰ February Wins – Let’s Celebrate Progress!

It’s easy to move from one goal to the next without recognising how much we’ve already achieved. In February, Hothouse members made real strides in their businesses, including:

βœ”οΈ Professional photoshoots completed

βœ”οΈ High-value networking that led to new opportunities

βœ”οΈ A pitch for a hotel project (! πŸ’ͺ)

βœ”οΈ Branding development – including new logo concepts and website briefs

βœ”οΈ New lead magnets created to build email lists

βœ”οΈ First-ever voice-over reel recorded

βœ”οΈ Marketing events attended (including personal branding deep-dives)

βœ”οΈ Promotional materials designed and launched

πŸ’‘ Momentum is everything – what’s next?

πŸ“… March Intentions and Focus

πŸš€ β€œThe key to consistency is accountability.” Tell us what you’ll achieve by the end of this month!

πŸ‘‰ Post your goals for March in Hothouse

NB: Our 'March Goals' post is pinned under the 'Featured' tab.

And, our focus for March is Social Media Marketing.

Too often, social media feels like an endless, exhausting treadmill for interior designers. But this month, we’re reclaiming control. We’ll be preparing for a big push - a one-day event called Race Day (details below), designed to set you up for sustainable, stress-free content creation.

πŸ’‘ And as ever, we’re setting goals, building new habits, and using accountability to drive progress.

πŸ“ New on the Blog – β€œFrom Name to Brand: The Evolution of Personal Branding for Interior Designers”

As part of our marketing focus in March, I’ve written about personal branding and its critical role in a successful interior design business.

So many of the biggest frustrations that designers experience (not charging enough, struggling to find great clients, an empty appointment book, lack of creative freedom) are directly linked to personal branding.

Not only is branding the key to attracting better clients, but I also believe it will be essential for long-term survival in a world of AI-driven design services.

πŸ’‘ PERSONAL BRANDING will be a focus on Race Day – read the full blogpost here.

πŸ“Ί Recommended Watch: Steven Bartlett’s interview with Daniel Priestly, where he breaks down the power of Personal Branding.

πŸ‘‰ Link to watch Diary of a CEO with guest Daniel Priestly (fast forward to 24 minutes and 50 seconds).

πŸš€ Social Media Race Day – Thursday 27th March, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM

πŸ“Œ What is Race Day?

A live, online workshop; a high-intensity, focused sprint where we’ll:

βœ” Plan, create, and schedule a month’s worth of social media content in just five hours.

βœ” Follow a structured process so nothing gets left behind, and your long-term business goals are front and centre.

βœ” Meet on Zoom at 9:30 AM to kick off, execute, and wrap up by 3 PM with a full content plan. The link to join will be in Hothouse, under the 'Events' tab.

πŸ›‘ This event is FREE, but you must have watched the two prep webinars!

πŸ“… Race Day - Prep Webinars to Get You Ready

Prep Webinar 1: Strategy & Content Pillars βœ… (Ran this week)

πŸ“Œ Pinterest – Get Ready Now!

πŸ’‘ Pinterest for Interior Designers – A live webinar with Kat Dooney of Stripe Social.

Start preparing now:

πŸ“Œ Set up a Pinterest Business account

πŸ“Œ Start pinning at least 1 image per day

Why? Pinterest content lasts forever - unlike Instagram, where posts fade within hours. By May, you’ll be ahead of the curve!

πŸ“Œ My Week in Hothouse – The Power of Tracking Growth

At the start of the year, I made a commitment to track my business metrics every single week.

Why? Because what gets measured, gets managed. My 2025 goal is to grow my email list to 1,000 subscribers, and I knew that consistent focus would be necessary to get there.

✨ Three months in, I thought I’d be flagging, but in fact, this discipline has been incredibly rewarding.

βœ” The right behaviours are turning into habits.

βœ” New conversations & opportunities are arising.

βœ” Website traffic & client enquiries are increasing.

βœ” My work is being seen by more people than ever before.

So, it really works. And I highly recommend that you track your own business growth too! Join me in Hothouse, where I post my results each week.

✨ Final Thought

Daniel Priestly shares a social science theory called: 7:11:4. This theory lies behind parasocial relationships; and parasocial effects cause strangers to believe that they know, trust, and like you.

A parasocial relationship is the reality behind the 'relationship' you have with your favourite movie star - you think you really know them because:

7 - you've spent more than 7 hours 'in their company' (ie watching their movies).

11 - you've seen them at least 11 times.

4 - you've encountered them on at least 4 platforms.

πŸ›  Let’s make sure your brand - and parasocial relationships - are working for you!

πŸš€ Let’s build, measure & refine together – see you in Hothouse - Join Here!

Warmly,

Julia

Hothhouse #82 - Whose Advice Is This?
Hello β˜€οΈ Usually the summer is quiet, but five designers booked appointments for advice last week. Every one arrived with a version of the same question: what should I do next? Between them they left with five different answers: no two could have shared a meeting. ? One needed to be visible before there was yet a business to be visible for.Β  ? One had a full order book, projects delivered beaut...
Hothouse #81 - Already in the Building
Hello πŸ‘€ To you, and to a new month. It's the middle of the third quarter, and today we are turning our attention to the woefully neglected. Here are two items for starters.Β  The first is the chunk of your life that you've deleted from your cv. Tt's the subject of this week's blog, and a choice most career changers will recognise the moment they see it named. The second is the business you own a...
Hothouse #80 - The Effort Behind Effortless
Hello πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ This week's theme was inspired by a question someone asked me a few weeks ago: is a first meeting with a prospective client the moment to bring out the Very Good Bag? My answer was yes. It was also, I now think, only half right, and the missing half turns out to be the interesting part. The thread running through this issue is that the things that read as effortless confidence, in a...
